Payne succeeded his father, Rep. Donald M. Payne, who also died in office. Payne experienced a "cardiac episode" early this month after complications linked to his diabetes, his office said last week, after the New Jersey Globe reported that he remained unconscious at the time. Earlier in the month, Payne's office said he was improving and had a "good" prognosis and an expectation of a "full recovery." Republicans argued this is about engaging all voters, no matter if they live in an urban or rural area.

In October 1940, President Roosevelt dedicated the new Hunter building, constructed with WPA funds, on Park Avenue. Whenever she was in town, Eleanor would often walk over to visit with students and speak at special events, a relationship that would endure for more than 20 years, ending only with her death in 1962. When Sara died in September 1941, the family put the double house up for sale. A nonprofit consortium, organized on behalf of Hunter student groups, agreed to buy it.

Meanwhile, during an interview on Rumble with Representative Matt Gaetz on Friday, Luna discussed the unprivileged motion to vacate Johnson and the possibility that a Democrat could become speaker. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, last month introduced a motion to vacate against Johnson, but it was unprivileged, meaning it did not automatically compel a vote. Greene has continued to warn Johnson against passing Ukraine aid, with Representative Thomas Massie, a Kentucky Republican, cosponsoring the motion this week. Anne Frank House, Amsterdam, Netherlands

anne frank house

The people in the Secret Annex followed the advance of the Allied Forces on the radio. From the start of the period in hiding, Otto and Edith Frank marked their daughters’ heights on their bedroom wall. In two years’ time, Margot grew 1 centimetre while Anne grew over 13 centimetres.

No large bags, only bags smaller than an A4 sheet of paper, are allowed inside the museum.

anne frank house

Anne Frank House is worth the visit if you are in the Second World War or Jewish history in Europe. The Anne Frank House does have a cloak room where you can store your coat, umbrella, smaller bag, etc. However, they will not allow entry of anything larger than a sheet of paper—a backpack, shopping bags, suitcase, etc. Again, given the nature of the location—little more than an attic up a steep set of stairs—the Secret Annex part of the Anne Frank House is, unfortunately, not wheelchair accessible. However, the modern part of the museum and the café are. Purchase the Netherlands Museum Pass to visit more than 400 museums in the Netherlands for one year.

The audio tour helps to bring Anne and the rest of the occupiers to life and it provides a deeper understanding about the persecution of Jewish people during World War II. When you go on the site to get your ticket you will be able to select your preferred time-slot for your visit. Be careful when choosing the date and time as no changes or refunds are allowed once you have purchased your tickets.

This is where the factory, offices, kitchen and warehouses of the business were located. In the daytime, these were busy with workers but by night the family were able to use some of these spaces. Two years later, in 1942, Otto set about arranging a what was to become the family’s famous hidden annex with the help of his colleague Hermann Van Pels. Anne turned 13 the same year and was gifted a red checked-print diary for her birthday. In their new city, the family set out to start a new life. Anne’s Father Otto began new companies which dealt with the sale of canned goods in offices and warehouses alongside the Prinsengracht canal.

Of the hidden group, only Otto Frank survived the camps. This private, 2-hour bike tour takes you along the Amstel River, passing Holocaust memorials, visiting significant sites in Anne Frank's life, and learning about the city's WWII history. The rooms are empty except for documents and the belongings of the eight people who hid there. The front part of the house tells the story of Anne Frank based on quotations from her diary, historical documents, photographs, audiovisual footage and original objects. Anne Frank’s original diaries and writings are displayed in another room. During the Second World War, Anne Frank spent over two years hiding in a secret annex at Prinsengracht 263, Amsterdam.

World War II

Visiting Anne Frank House can be very emotional for some people; it’s best to do something to feel a bit more relaxed or to boost your mood. There are many good places around the museum; I’ve listed my favorite spots in the neighborhood. An excellent place to do so is Amsterdam central station. However, the best option is to leave them at your accommodation. In the museum, we’ve seen people wearing shorts, sandals, etc. It’s essential to travel light and be on time at the museum.

Re-read the Diary of Anne Frank before your visit

Up here the families would hang out their laundry to dry and keep their food supplies safe. In this otherwise unassuming hallway landing the famous revolving bookcase hides the entrance the Anne’s secret hideout. Built by Johan Voskuijl, it kept the family concealed until they were tragically discovered. Taking Anne Frank House photos is not allowed – hence the significant lack of photos of the interiors of the museum in this post.

Anne Frank is one of the most well-known former residents of Amsterdam. The Anne Frank House at Prinsengracht 263 is where she and her family hid for over two years during World War II. It has now been transformed into a museum with a sobering exhibition on the persecution of Jews during the war and discrimination in general.

There, Otto founded a company that traded in pectin, a gelling agent for making jam. Mr. Voskuijl built the piece of furniture.’ Anne Frank wrote in her diary on 21 August 1942. The former hiding place of Anne Frank attracted a huge amount of interest, especially as translations and dramatisations of the Diary had made her a figure known throughout the world. Over the years, the building has had to be renovated to manage such a large number of visitors, and it closed temporarily for this reason in 1970 and 1999. The cafe is next to the market; you can also walk around the open market to experience the local vibe if you have time. It’s important to know that you can only book the introductory with the entrance ticket.

In order to protect the original items in the museum and to avoid causing nuisance to other visitors, photography is not allowed in the museum. The train journey took three days, during which Anne and over a thousand others were packed closely together in cattle wagons. There was little food and water and only a barrel for a toilet. Jews had to start wearing a Star of David on their clothes and there were rumours that all Jews would have to leave the Netherlands. When Margot received a call-up to report for a so-called ‘labour camp’ in Nazi Germany on 5 July 1942, her parents were suspicious.

On 1 September 1939, when Anne was 10 years old, Nazi Germany invaded Poland, and so the Second World War began. Not long after, on 10 May 1940, the Nazis also invaded the Netherlands. Slowly but surely, the Nazis introduced more and more laws and regulations that made the lives of Jews more difficult. For instance, Jews could no longer visit parks, cinemas, or non-Jewish shops.

Since you need to provide the visitor’s name while reserving the tickets and need to show your ID while visiting the museum, it’s best to book the tickets yourself in case something goes wrong. If you plan to visit the museum, I advise you to book the tickets once they are available to get the best time slot for your trip. One of the centrepieces of the exhibition is the original diary of Anne Frank. Through her words, history comes alive, offering visitors an intimate insight into her thoughts, fears, and dreams during her time in the annex. People from all over the world come to Prinsengracht to visit the building where Anne Frank and her family spent two years in hiding during the Second World War.

Tucked away over the kitchen of the office and below the attic, entering the annex feels as though you’re stepping back in time to 1942. Visiting Anne Frank House is unlike visiting a normal museum. This is a place where visitors are drawn to reflect on the life of Anne and her family. The film Reflections shows what Anne Frank’s diary and life story meant to 22 writers, actors, visitors and people who knew Anne.

Through the bookcase is the entrance hallway to the hideout. The room that belonged to the Frank family is to the left of here and the room that was occupied by the Pels is up the stairs. When he returned from Auschwitz in June 1945, he found his old hiding place ransacked and empty. Otto wanted to keep the building as a reminder of the trials and tribulations that his family lived through. The museum is a subdued place where each of the rooms feel personal and authentic.

Free leaflets in 8 languages are available at the entrance of the museum. Visitors are not allowed to take photographs or to film in the Anne Frank House. Due to the nature of the building, the museum is not exactly accessible to visitors with mobility issues. The house is an old canal-side property and as such has steep stairs and there’s no elevator to access the upper levels. Anne Frank House tickets can be purchased online strictly via the official website of the museum, and they are normally put on sale every Tuesday, 6 weeks ahead of the day of your intended visit.

Every Tuesday at 10am CET all tickets become available for a visit six weeks later. You can opt for a museum visit or a museum visit with an introductory program. Remember to get some ice cream after visiting the museum. However, you can only take some pictures at the entrance for your memory, without any other visitors in the picture.

It’s ideal as a free CAD software for 3D printing as you can easily export finished models into STL files for your 3D printer, and its easy-to-use interface makes it great for beginners and experienced makers alike. Both 3D CAD software and 2D CAD programs exist to create, edit, modify and test 2D and 3D designs before they ever get put into production and become physical parts, tools or objects. Designers may find there’s a learning curve when using certain sketch or design programs. Many design software options provide access to training guides to aid in learning these programs and obtaining all their benefits. Tutorials, training guides, webinars, and live instruction can help make learning these programs easier. Live instruction specifically allows for troubleshooting any problems as they arise while using the programs.

Adding a set of body side moldings to your car or truck can not only be impressive but they are totally functional. A simple car door molding or bumper protection molding can save you a lot of time and money later in body shop costs just by protecting the sides of the car or truck with a rubber or vinyl car door molding or strip. Having a car molding will protect you from simple bumps and bruises that you might get in a parking lot.

By contrast, an engineer is probably more interested in 3D software in order to see designs more intricately when it comes to things like mechanics. CAD, which stands for computer-aided design, is a type of software that helps engineers and designers create 2D and 3D models of projects. In essence, it’s a way to map or draft a project, such as a room design, before beginning the physical work. Body Side Moldings provide protection for your doors and side body of your vehicle.

Designers who are uncertain of which program is best for them may want to take advantage of complimentary trial periods offered by some software programs. This allows designers to experiment with the program while narrowing their search for the best interior design software for their purposes. Interior design software helps create visual room layouts to present drawings or realistic representations of remodeled spaces. Many options also include drag-and-drop features to bring accessories and furnishings into premade floor plan templates that can then be customized. These programs also may offer the capability to reimagine layouts by adding walls, windows, doors, and more.

BODY SIDE MOLDINGS

Not to worry, there are still a number of affordable CAD software options you can choose from. IronCAD is another free 2D and 3D CAD software that is often used in the mechanical design field and uses solid modeling technology. One of its main selling points is how it uses modeling to provide computational methods for solving blends and shells and other geometric calculations.

This can help avoid unexpected or costly surprises and ensure more satisfactory results in the final reveals of newly designed spaces or remodels. If you’re a student or a beginner, then there are options for free CAD software and free 3D model software available so that you can learn the ropes. Once you’re more comfortable using this type of software, you can invest in a more professional-level product. Plus, some travel agents provide onboard credit to cruising clients. Since we booked through our travel agent, Viking sent her the final travel documents, and she checked them before passing them on to us. Another 22 cabins have the more traditional French balconies, where you can open the doors for fresh air, but can't actually go outside. The balcony cabins are 205 square feet, while the French balcony cabins are significantly smaller at 135 square feet. Viking river cruise ship layouts center on the glass-enclosed Aquavit Terrace. Part dining area, part sunny hangout, the Aquavit Terrace sits at the front of the ship and provides a perfect vantage point for scenic sailing. There was a mandatory safety drill on our first full day of the river cruise. Life vests were under the beds, but prior to the drill, they were placed on our beds while we were at lunch.

The centerpiece of the top deck of each of Viking's ocean ships is the main pool area, which is home to a pool, hot tub and rows of lounge chairs, as well as comfortable seating areas. You'll also find musicians including pianists and guitar players performing at times in the Viking Living Room — a three-deck-high, atrium-like space at the center of the ship. Filled with comfortable seating areas and home to a bar, the Viking Living Room serves as a central meeting point for passengers throughout the day and night. It's also home to the ship's Explorers' Desk — the equivalent of a guest relations area on other ships. The number of restaurants and other dining options that you'll find on Viking ships will vary greatly depending on whether you are sailing on an ocean or a river ship.

During the day on excursions, travelers dress very comfortably as they leave the ship to explore a destination. Leave your dressier clothes at home; no formal nights are on a Viking River cruise. River cruises are very popular choices for people who like traveling to new places in the comfort of a floating hotel. That is, you sleep and eat on the ship and are transported to your destinations along a river. Plus, Viking offers several excursions each day that the ship is in port.

Outside is an expansive wrap-around veranda with table and chairs, so you can enjoy your morning coffee while sailing past some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. The generous space in this suite makes it the perfect place to relax with friends. As a guest in the Explorer Suite, you are upgraded to the Silver Spirits Package, ensuring you have complimentary beverages throughout your time onboard. You also have discounted premium economy and business class airfare available to you, and are provided early embarkation to board before the rest of the passengers.

It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with tables for six and eight. Breakfast and lunch are buffets that are served during set times, although you can also order cooked-to-order items off the menu. On our trip, we met interesting people; visited fascinating places; sampled new foods, wines, and beer; and appreciated Viking’s convenience and gracious hospitality. We can’t say enough about how well-run and maintained the ships are. Although we have some other trips planned (that we organize ourselves, as we often do), we are contemplating which Viking cruise — river or ocean — we will be booking next. Tipping is the universal way to thank someone for providing excellent service — and you will find excellent service on Viking.

Viking also offers lots of balcony cabins and suites on its river ships, something that isn't always the case in the river cruise business, where space on vessels is at a premium. Unlike its ocean ships, Viking's river ships aren't all-balcony-cabin vessels. UPPER DECK - The Upper Deck is the main space on the ship, the place where you will find yourself spending most of your time while onboard.

Disney Alaska cruise: 10 things to know before sailing north

disney alaskan cruise

The prices for the cruise vary dramatically by room type and date of sailing. We asked our travel partner to pull some sample pricing for cruises so that we could include them here for your reference. The seven night cruise includes stops at Dawes Glacier; Juneau, Alaska; Skagway, Alaska; and Ketchikan, Alaska. That's exactly what we did, so at the end of seven magical days, it wasn't "goodbye" — it was "see ya real soon."

Book some excursions — but price them carefully

Filled to the brim with Alaskan gift items, there are ample things to see. And of course, as with every port town, there are an ample amount of jewelry counters present too. A beautifully curated shop, the local gift shop features home decor items, candles, and more if you’re looking for something more upscale than the typical Alaskan souvenir. This shop is part of the Niblick’s General Store family, which is a mainstay in Ketchikan. Located at 326 Main Street this shop is next door to the Just Dandy Apothecary and Cafe and right up the street from 55 North Bakery and Coffee. A local favorite for breakfast, lunch, and dinner you can get a variety of crepes here.

The 'Frozen' deck show isn't a must-do But the stage show is a must-see

Open for lunch and dinner, the offerings on the menu are 2 items only. These doughy, potato-y balls are a bit like dumplings, gnocchi, or pierogi and come topped with curry spices, hot sauce, and chives. Sometimes sour cream is offered, but we didn’t get that option when we visited.

There is also a water and soda station on the Deck 9 pool deck. We brought reusable water bottles and popped up here to refill them throughout the trip. There are a couple of water bottle fill stations on the upper deck by the pool and in the gym. In addition to the above there is included 24/7 room service onboard. It is much more important to think about what you aren't going to eat than to worry about what you are. When you first board the Disney Wonder in Vancouver each restaurant will be open for you to enjoy lunch.

Why Choose a Disney Cruise?

All items are in stock and prices are accurate at the time of publication. If you buy something through our links, we may earn a commission. It’s also smart to fold an extra duffel bag into your suitcase—what with the merchandise available onboard and the many souvenir shops on shore, you’ll be coming home from Alaska with way more than you packed. Other features worth mentioning on the Wonder include the spacious spa and top-floor fitness center, where you can run on a treadmill while watching glaciers and icebergs glide by. No matter the weather, people are always using the swimming pool and outdoor hot tubs, while Disney movies play on the huge outdoor screen above.

What to Pack for a Disney Alaska Cruise

If you’re interested in dining at Palo, make a reservation as far ahead of time as possible. By far the most memorable event of our Disney Alaska cruise—and that’s saying a lot—was the Glacier Discovery by Helicopter excursion, operated by Temsco Helicopters in Skagway. After a quick safety briefing, we boarded an Airbus helicopter manned by a very capable and personable pilot who was also an expert at calming any nerves, mine included. We flew over crystal-blue lakes, above vast expanses of gleamingly white ice fields, and incredibly close to steep, lush mountainsides.

Keep in mind that kids are not fed by the kids clubs so even though your child will likely want to stay in the club all day you will have to grab them for meals. This is also something to keep in mind when booking any Palo reservation that may conflict with your child's eating timing. On embarkation you and your child can tour the kids clubs together to calm any nerves.

Known as the “Blue Building” you’ll find local shops, Frost +Fur, Pel Meni’s, Hearthside Books, seafood restaurants, and Glacier Coffee Co. here. If you’re looking for a place to go that has local specialties, and souvenirs, then this is where you can start. Available through Disney Cruise Line or for a cheaper price through Temsco which is the same company that does Disney’s Dog Sledding and Glacier Flightseeing Port Excursion. Guests board a helicopter and are taken to the mountaintops to meet musher dogs, learn about the sleds and take their turn at mushing on their own. A favorite among just about everyone, meeting the dogs, and learning how to mush are experiences you may only get the chance to do in Alaska.

Alaskan Glacier Viewing Day Disney Cruise At Sea Day 3

I enjoy having a balcony on warm Caribbean and Mexico sailings more than in Alaska, where it can be windy and chilly outside as the ship is moving. Most of the elements of our Disney Cruise to Alaska were exceptional, but the much-anticipated "Frozen night" with deck show wasn't one of those things. It was fine; the littlest kids enjoyed it, and if it's convenient for you to pop up and see, then do it. But don't plan your evening around it or stress if you are tired and need to miss it, especially if you don't have young kids. While the time of year and the forecast for your sailing should influence what goes in your bag, try and resist the urge to overpack. Bring too much stuff, and your cabin will feel crowded with your belongings, you'll be less nimble and flexible in the airport and you won't have as many options for ground transportation.

It rained on and off throughout the day and the sky was gray all day. In the morning we walked through the various shops in town and I took a longer walk up the river beyond Creek Street. The amount of salmon floating peacefully in the river was astounding. This is an activity you could easily purchase tickets directly from the venue if you wanted to. I would have loved to go on a long hike but due to others in our group with less mobility we opted to spend time together on the railway experience. This was a great way to see the sights and spend time together.

Even for the days when we were coming into port, it was delightful to watch our approach from the comfort of our own balcony. For many cruises you could take the same approach that we take for hotels near Disneyland – why pay for the room if you are going to be out of the room the entire trip exploring and having fun? You may want to reconsider this for an Alaskan cruise as the itineraries are longer and the outdoor spaces are colder due to the Alaskan weather. With our group's age range for this trip (from 20 years old to 80+ years old), there was almost always someone in the room who wasn't keen to be out exploring. We were very happy to have a Verandah room during our Alaskan Disney Cruise and enjoyed waking up to views and having the option to check out the view without having to get warmer clothes on and go up on deck. I saw plenty of real tears the final night and on the morning of debarkation.

It is common for operators to make adjustments to excursions based on weather, safety concerns and other factors. Helicopter and small plane tours are especially likely to be canceled or adjusted. My advice is to be flexible and not stake the trip's success on any one excursion.

Sharing details about the plants, trees, and history on the trails, as well as fun facts about the whales. Just like most of the excursions on our Alaska trip, we just wouldn’t have gotten this level of detail or knowledge had we attempted these things on our own. Know that sometimes the cruise itinerary is in reverse, so depending on your itinerary this may be your last stop. By far our favorite Alaskan port, Skagway is home to the astounding history of the Gold Rush.

If you want to have fun with formal night, pack your favorite cocktail dress, dapper hat or fascinator, playful ties, jewels and cuff links. Cruisers also can rock formal military uniforms or the custom formal attire of other countries -- such as the Barong Tagalog (pictured) or a dress kilt from Scotland. A day bag is clutch on a cruise, too, whether you’re toting books and baby snacks for a few hours poolside or hopping ship for a shore excursion for the day. There’s plenty of room to bring souvenirs back inside the gorgeous and durable canvas Tote-Ally bags by women-founded Florida brand Bagging Rights.

Now before the fun of exploring, keep in mind you’ll be doing a lot of waiting around to get on the ship, plus going through security, and perhaps waiting for your room to be ready. Some of the world’s most beautiful scenery gets that lush shade of green for a reason; the occasional rain shower. Bring a waterproof that folds down small, and a waterproof cover for your camera.

We love the bohemian style for its creative use of color and adventurous patterns. There is something about the sunshine that makes us want to dress bold and bright, as if to match the mood. You’d rather not carry your belt along with you in your meagre carry-on? Floral patterns are undeniably in, and they are made rather masculine when used in the Hawaiian shirt style. This is an easy shirt that you can throw on on your way to the breakfast buffet, or even for an afternoon of tanning on the sun deck. Nautical-inspired fashion is considered to be classy and high-end, thanks undoubtedly to its association with exclusive yacht clubs and luxurious boat purchases.

Of course, British Columbia requires a different packing strategy than a trip to The Bahamas or the Mediterranean. Even when cruising in the summer months, be sure to dress for the destination, not the season — layers are your friend here. Don't forget a hat and gloves and some wool socks to keep your toes warm, too!

Even if you’re taking a cruise around the Caribbean, it’s smart to take a light sweater or fleece to wear at night when the temperature tends to cool down. After all, you won’t want to get chilly while enjoying the starry sky from your stateroom veranda or on one of the ship’s decks. I like this one from LugLife because it’s loaded with pockets inside and outside.

Approach packing for a cruise in a similar way you do a resort vacation on land, minimizing components while maximizing options. When going to dinner on a cruise, bringing dressier shoes to elevate your outfit is a good idea. Whether it’s a formal night or a casual evening, having the right shoes can add a touch of elegance to your dining experience. A little black dress is always appropriate for cruise formal nights, however the lace detail on this dress just adds an extra touch of elegance. Like most of the other dresses in this list of cruise outfit ideas, it’s very affordable. Are you going on a cruise and looking for cruise outfits that are fashionable and affordable?
